A bit more about us...

Second Nature is a place designed around real life, and real responsibility.

Responsibility that’s built in from the start, rather than added on afterwards.

Hospitality often runs on fixed systems. The same shortcuts, and the same assumptions about what matters. Second Nature exists because we chose to question those defaults, and build something more considered instead.

We start from a simple belief: it’s hard to care, and easy not to. Caring takes time, judgement, and consistency. It means choosing what works better over what’s simply standard.

That belief shapes what you experience here. Spaces that work around real routines. Teams who notice what matters and respond without script. Decisions made carefully, even when no one
is watching.

Second Nature feels lived in, not staged. Calm, practical spaces where sleep, food, work, and social time flow naturally through the day. Nothing is forced. Nothing is rushed. Things are set up to work when you need them to.

Staying at Second Nature is a different kind of choice. One that supports people who care about what they do. One that considers impact as part of the system. And one that, we hope, leaves you feeling better than when you arrived.

What's more, your stay doesn't cost the earth.

Booking into Second Nature has a meaningful impact. Our hometels use 89% less carbon per night than the average UK hotel. Our approach is built on lower-carbon, socially conscious hospitality.

What is a hometel?

A Second Nature hometel gives you the ease of home and the service of a hotel.

Hotels can be too rigid, apartments can be too unreliable. A hometel fills the gap in between: the kitchen, space, and privacy of a home, backed by the quality and service of a hotel.

While we’re not trying to recreate either, we created the hometel to reflect how people actually travel and live in the world.

By focusing on what’s essential rather than what’s conventional, we’ve built a space that respects your time and the environment. Our footprint is smaller, your experience is richer.

Why we care

Care is Second Nature.

Caring takes time and effort - resources often sacrificed by hospitality businesses who need to be fast, standard, and scalable.

This relentless push for optimisation mirrors a wider struggle we all face today: we are increasingly disconnected from one another and the systems that sustain us, often feeling powerless to change the tide.

It’s natural to think: how can we - you and I - really make a difference in this world?

Put simply,

caring is the difference,
between something that works, and something that matters.

When we care more, all of the things that need to happen come naturally.

Caring gives us courage and clarity to operate bravely, even in the face of fear and uncertainty. It allows us to do extraordinary things we might otherwise not try. And it means the little things never pass us by because we notice when something, or someone, seems a bit off.

This is care-based hospitality.

The Five Cares

Second Nature is shaped by five areas of care. They are an internal compass for everything we do, and everything you experience in one of our locations.

These cares start long before your stay begins, with each one informing the choices we make and the impact we want to have.

The aim? To care so deeply that you have nothing to worry about.

Care for

People

Our instinct is to put others first. To look out for, and listen to, what’s truly needed.

This means caring about how people actually live, not how they’re expected to behave. Rooms work around you. Shared spaces are welcoming and easy to use. Hosting is thoughtful, not rehearsed.

Place

Every Second Nature space is shaped by the community it belongs to.

We pay attention to its culture, knowledge, materials, and the people already there. Our work helps guests connect to the local area. And even contribute to it.

Planet

Natural resources are precious capital that we actively manage.

We design and operate with the long-term in mind - reducing waste, using resources carefully, and favouring things built to last. Comfort is never compromised, but it’s always something you can feel positive about.

Progress

We never stand still, because care has no limits.

We keep learning, refining, and improving how things work so that experiences stay relevant and reliable. Change for its own sake is rarely the answer, but when a better way appears, we take notice.

Purpose

We focus our energy where it matters most rather than spreading it thin.

That focus leads to calmer decisions. Choices that are considered, consistent, and made with confidence. When care is guided by purpose, it creates places that feel intentional, not overworked.

Certification
& Accountability

Independent recognition is an essential audit - not for validation but for accountability.

It’s a way of pressure-testing whether the decisions we make stand up beyond our own worldview.

B Corp Certified

Second Nature is a B Corp. This means we meet independently verified standards for our social, environmental, and governance impact. It reflects our commitment to responsible business practices that benefit people and planet.

Industry

Our work has been recognised for its design quality, operational integrity, and environmental rigor. Recent awards and credentials include:

Marie Claire Sustainability Awards 2024 - Best National Sustainable Hotel

Full transparency

These external certifications are featured for accountability. They are never a given, but represent a standard we are committed to maintaining every day.

We hope they provide assurance for guests looking for high-quality, operationally carbon-neutral* accommodation, and that they give our partners confidence that Second Nature’s decisions are grounded in recognised, third-party standards.

From room2 to Second Nature

Does any of this look or sound familiar? It’s because you might know us as room2.

room2 began with a simple belief: hospitality should fit your life, not force you to fit into hotel routines. That belief remains our foundation, but it means so much more today than it did when we started in 2015. The way people live, travel, and work has changed. As has what it means to ‘be a sustainable hotel’. room2 no longer says enough about what we are building, or how we want to show up for people, places, and planet. Second Nature does.

Second Nature gives our vision of deep-caring hospitality the scope it needs.

What’s the same from room2:
- The space to live fully. Rooms support short stopovers or longer stays, kitchens are designed to be used, and arrival and departure times still flex around your schedule.

What’s evolved from room2: -
How we care. Our Five Cares provide us with a framework that informs the long-term choices we make and the responsible impact we want to have. It gives us the ability to go deeper.

For example: sustainability is crucial, but it’s just the baseline for a more comprehensive commitment. Everything - materials, energy, waste - must be managed with precision from day one, ensuring comfort never comes at the planet’s expense. It’s why care is Second Nature.

It’s what we practice in every day, detail, and decision, so that through the services, spaces, and practices we create, guests can go with their flow, feel completely themselves, and make an impact.

If you stayed with us as room2, the experience is the same. Second Nature simply gives it more clarity, more confidence, and the momentum to set a new standard.

How We Care

A Second Chance for waste

Through our design studio, Madeby, we turn what we have into what we need. Materials that would otherwise become waste are given a second life across our hometels - becoming lamps, tables, bins and bits built with a past life and a new purpose.
